BANGKOK: The Royal Thai Army (RTA) has accused Cambodian forces of violating a recently agreed-upon ceasefire, launching attacks into Thai territory just hours after the truce was supposed to take effect. The agreement, intended to de-escalate military tensions along the border, came into force at midnight on July 28, 2025, aiming to foster peace and cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
In a statement released early this morning, the RTA affirmed its strict adherence to the ceasefire, confirming that Thai forces ceased all military operations along the border immediately at the stipulated time. This, they stated, demonstrated Thailand’s “sincere intention and commitment” to the obligations jointly agreed upon by both governments.
However, the RTA expressed deep disappointment, revealing that despite the ceasefire deadline, Cambodian forces were still detected using weapons to attack multiple points within Thai territory. The army condemned these actions as a “deliberate violation” of the agreement, designed to “destroy mutual trust.”
Consequently, the RTA stated that Thailand would be “compelled to employ appropriate retaliatory measures” under its legitimate right to self-defense. The statement emphasized that Thailand’s use of military force would not be for aggression but solely for “preventing encroachment and preserving national sovereignty under international law.”
